It is enjoyable owning a car, but it is the maintaining and cleaning that takes a lot of time and work. Today, cleaning a car not only involves washing; there are different cleaners involved too. There are the wheel, wax, dash, rim, and carpet cleaners for cars that will turn everyone crazy just thinking about cleaning their own cars. This is why most car owners are more than happy to pay people to detail their cars!
Most car owners do not have the time or the patience to take their cars to auto washes. Instead, they would much rather have their cars cleaned while they are in the office, and doing their work. This is where you can come in as an auto detailer, you offer to go over the car in detail by cleaning the outside, and inside until the car gets a "like-new-look.? You have to be ready to clean, wax and polish the paint, chrome, and wheels so that it reaches a sparkling shine.
There is not much investment involved in a car detailing business; you just have to have the necessary cleaning materials and devices. You will have to have a few buckets, a portable vacuum, cleaning, waxing, and polishing supplies, chamois, and sponges. The maximum investment you will need for offering a basic detailing to car owners will be about $100. However, if you venture to start specialized services, you may have to spend up to $1000.
There are two markets for you to center on as an auto detailer; you can detail all the cars found in a dealer's showroom and lot, in large volumes and offer to detail private party cars. You can charge different rates for detailing; perhaps about $30 for basic car wash services and up to $100 for specialized services like polishing and waxing.
You will need some form of transportation to take you to the car owner's work place or home to detail their cars for them. (Coming to your customer to offer services is a great selling point for you.) Once you build a good reputation as a first-rate auto detailer, you will automatically get more clients.
For advertisement purposes, you will need some business cards. You can leave your business cards on all the cars in parking lots so that car owners will get to know about your detailing services. Another option would be to print up advertisements to leave with Companies that have large parking areas for their employees. If you need to, you could also place an advertisement in the yellow pages or on an internet website. With this, people who need your services can find your contact information, which is available to them. Also, make sure you have some form of advertising on your vehicle. This will work for you while traveling to jobs and while detailing cars in parking areas.
When you build up a sizeable income, you have the option to reinvest your money in other equipment that offers other higher-end services like; windshield-wiper replacement, leather conditioning, upholstery repair, steam cleaning, or engine cleaning. You could also consider offering dent removal services and windshield chip repair. There are many car owners in need of this service too! So if you have a natural affinity for cars, and love maintaining cars, this can prove to be a great home based business for you to start!
