Bike Servicing
Offer a mobile service to fix and adjust people's bikes by going to their home or office to fix them. Many people would rather have the service delivered to them than doing it themselves, or bringing it somewhere to have it fixed. You could charge $20 per visit and adjust the fee for whatever service you may perform on their bike.
Most people love their bikes and want to take good care of them. It can be such a hassle to get the bike to a bike shop though. If you offer a service that comes to their bike, you will make many people happy. These days the bikes on the market are much like cars; they need tuning and servicing on a regular basis. If people maintain their bikes properly, they ride better, are more reliable, and last much longer.
Offer a mobile service to fix and adjust peoples' bikes by going to their home or office to fix them. This will require either a truck, or van, so that you can carry all of the needed equipment required for accomplishing your service. Be sure to carry everything you may possibly need for each job; the same essentials that you would see in a bike repair shop.
If you have the skills in bike repair this very well could be the 'business idea' you have been looking for. If you don't already have these skills go to your neighborhood library and check out a few books on this subject. You might even see if you can get a temporary job in a local bike repair shop. If there are no openings for jobs, see if you can shadow technicians in the shop, offering some free labor to learn their skills?
Most people would prefer having a service delivered to them, rather than doing it themselves. Others don't have the knowledge of maintaining their own bikes and bringing it somewhere to have it fixed is a real inconvenience for them. Getting it into and out of a vehicle, making an appointment with the bike shop, taking the time to get the bike to the shop are all inconvenient.
They will be happy to pay a little more to have you come to them and repair their bike. Especially if they use their bike on a regular basis to get to work, it would be so convenient for them to call you and have their bike serviced while they are working. You could charge $20 per visit and adjust the fee for whatever service you may perform on their bike for them.
A good way to find out what to charge for the various services you can offer is by checking with your local bike shops. Find out what the local bike shops are asking for the same repairs.
Many bike shops also offer programs to people that buy bikes from them. My favorite local bike shop offers free tune-ups on the bikes they sell. (The labor for the tune-up is free; any parts that I may need to replace are not free.) This might be something you could incorporate with your services somehow. It keeps me coming back to them on a regular basis; other shops require me to pay up to $100 a visit for regular tune-ups. The shop that offers the free tune-up is smart, because they ensure that they don't loose their customers to their competitors. I am always buying extra items when I have my bike tuned up. I am a happy loyal customer and they make big profits on the items I buy from them.
