Bookstore Tours
Offer a service for bookstore tours. It could be a daylong event where you travel from your current residence touring the bookstores there and ending up in a nice place with many bookstores. Of course, your target market would be anyone who loves books and reading! You should charge about $99 per person.
People that love to read would love to indulge themselves in a daylong tour like this. I know that when I have gone to visit relatives in other areas of the country, we will often do this for fun. Many times the bookstores that are the most popular with us are the used bookstores. We find many old out-of-print books that are real treasures. This could be likened to taking a day going antiquing.
It could be a daylong event where you travel starting with your current community touring the local bookstores there and ending up in a nice place in another fun community with many bookstores. Often times you can find charming little town areas that attract these types of new and used bookstores. Enjoying sitting out and drinking coffee and reading on a coffee shop patio or trying quaint little restaurants close by, could add to the enjoyment of the day's tour.
Renting a large passenger-van to take people on this tour would work to your advantage. If you are able to invest in one yourself, this could prove to be beneficial too. If you have enough interest, you could even work with a bus service to offer the tours with you.
You could easily charge about $99 per person for a full day tour. Offering special package deals for groups that sign up and discounts for the elderly, could be a good idea too. You may also want to work with the businesses that you take these tours into, see if they would be willing to offer discounts to your customers while they are on your tours. You will probably find that they are more than happy to work with you, because you are bringing them added business. If you coordinate your tours with them, when you will be bringing by your tours, they can also make sure that they have enough staff on hand to provide good customer care also.
For your benefit, you might provide your tourists with a Tote Bag to carry their new books that they purchase on your tours. Investing in good strong canvas bags with your tour information would be an excellent investment. Let your customers keep the bags so they will be advertising for you whenever they use the bag as a tote. The bag will make your customers happy and you can write the expense off for advertising at the end of the year. When they carry the totes on the tours, other customers in the bookstores will become aware of your tour business from them. This is an excellent way to advertise for your business. You could also advertise with magnetic signs on your touring vehicle. Be sure to always add your business phone number for booking new tours and/or your website address on the tour bus and sturdy attractive totes.
This could be such a fun 'business idea' to do part time, or full time. If you are a reader yourself, this could be the business of your dreams. Knowing what readers enjoy and the types of books that people like to collect, is a valuable asset for running this type of business successfully.
You could also advertise by posting your tours at local libraries, bookstores, community centers, just anywhere that people may see your flyers and be interested. Having an advertisement in your local newspaper and yellow pages could be beneficial also. Resources:
